Anonymous: Do you plan on making a Sebastian Vael with the rest of the dragon age chibis? I ask cause I know the fandom has a tendency to exclude or forget him
I haven’t played his DLC, so no :\ same goes for Shale when I get to making an Origins set. If I ever happen to get either of those DLCs then I might, though it’s unlikely that I’ll be doing that any time soon.
Unlike Shale’s DLC, Sebastian’s isn’t free so that’s my guess as to why he’d often be left out :O …well that’s what I would’ve thought, don’t know though…

Anonymous: Do you take requests?
Nope, I do not do requests. I was thinking about taking a couple of little ones though as part of another thing, but I’ll post more about that later when I’m sure I have the time to complete them!

Anonymous: Do u have sources for learning animation/art for people who cant go to school
The Animator’s Survival Kit is a pretty good resource for a lot of the basics, we used excerpts from it at Uni and I know people(myself included) who find it useful as a refresher.
Other than that study everything, study animations, reference videos, and the movement around you every day. Also when I say study, really I just mean take notice of stuff…though sitting down and full on studying movements might work for people ^^’
And of course just animating a bunch! whenever something looks weird, usually I find it’s just a matter of trial and error with frames or approaching it differently…lots and lots of trial and error :\

Anonymous: if we were going to traditonaly animate our own things, using your tutorials, would you like us to credit you?
If you’d like to credit me then go ahead, otherwise I don’t really see any need to :) if you were directly copying from it then it might be good to link back to the tutorial, but if it’s just being used as a reference then you can do whichever you like!

Sort of follow up from the hair tutorial yesterday, mixing in a bit of this quick tutorial too. Hopefully this is easy enough to understand ^^’ one of those things that can change a lot depending on the animation.
And if you’d like a little wave guide, I’ve got one here!

The wave reference? you can do a search for sine wave gifs, there are some good ones people have already made which work as animation refs like this and this.
Otherwise you can just take a static wave and animate it going to one side (easier in Photoshop or Flash). If you can’t do either of those, I’ve got one I made up a while ago that people can use :)

Anonymous: How do you do the hair in the wind animations
Usually I follow the same basics mentioned here with flowing cloth animations, where that kind of flowing/windy animation follows a wave form. I tend to do this by eye, but if it’s a bit hard to wrap your head around, making up a little wave graphic can be helpful.

Here’s a quick example (there’s one frame in there somewhere that’s bugging me…but it’s fine for the example). When I animate these sort of things I keep in mind how the invisible wave looks, and how whatever it is is being pushed. I do a lot of this in my head, so it’s a tad tricky to explain…

This is the animation slowed down, it moves very slowly at the base, moving to quick and tapering at the end as it’s pulled by everything else.

And slowed with a wave added. The wave doesn’t exactly fit…but I’ve just drawn it badly :\ in the case of short animations I tend to have things follow the timing of the wave in a very linear pattern, but it looks nicer with extra frames added to add some easing as it moves up or down. Having it suddenly skip ahead a bit can work well for rougher movement or when multiple things are affecting the movement.
I find with flowing things it’s better to find examples you like and study the frames, it can get kind of abstract when working with shapes more complex than a pointed tube ^^’ but this principle generally carries through with a lot of moving things like capes, leaves and whatnot.
EDIT : If you need a reference wave to help, I’ve added one here!
Anonymous: Hi! I was wondering when you would restock on the Ratchet and Clank charm? Loved it so much, and I love your art, too!
