Ooohhh that’s hard…in terms of design I’d say Lapis hands down, I like drawing her the most (sucker for flowing skirts and ribbons~). Otherwise probably Garnet or Pearl…aaaarrrhh it’s too hard to choose. As for non-gems then Connie, Sadie or Nanafua. Everyone is too good XD heh, and thanks!

mikkotto: Hello! I was wondering if you were going to put up the second part of the skyhold chibis in your store?
YES! I actually was hoping to get them made up this week and have them in the store either this week or next! I’ll also be restocking some of the sold out Steven Universe cards, and putting up a few new prints :)

Anonymous: Hello! I saw your message about tutors and I was wondering if you could take jus through your thought process of making the chibi gifs. Like maybe you could say why you do something or where you should put shadows. Maybe you could also do the do's and don'ts when drawing. I really like your work so that would be really nice if you could, but you don't have to since its just a suggestion. :)
Hiya! hmm, I’m not sure if I can teach those things. It just comes down to observation and learning, everyone views shadows differently and has their own way of thinking about them! that’s something I like about art :) people can try and mimic styles, but you’ll always see things the way you do, little bits pop though…at least that’s how I feel XD heh
All I can suggest is to practice, observe and to do what you think is right! emphasis on the observe part, when you see a picture with an appealing shadow, figure out why they did that! when you’re around people and someone is well lit, stare at them and observe their shadows!…then pretend you weren’t staring at them…or just look at yourself in different lighting.
…oh and when it comes to thought process in general I can’t say much, I can list steps to things, but when doing art my thoughts are generally ‘this looks good’ and ‘no, fix that’…which isn’t entirely helpful and can vary too much.

Anonymous: Pyxis and Astrid are adorable! I love the running animations! Are you going to make a film for them like you did with Primosis? I love your film!
Thank you! ; O ; I would love to make a film with them, I’ve been doing some writing with them but it might be a tad tricky to do a film. Prismosis was made as my graduate film, so I had the resources of lecturers and classmates to review my work. I also had no idea what I wanted her to sound like, Whereas I have a pretty solid idea of what I want Pyxis and Astrid to sound like, so I’d be fussy about it XD
I still might though! just have to think of a plot I’m willing to both devote a year to and bug friends about ^^” heh…or just make shorter/nonspeaking scripts :\

Anonymous: Can you do a chibi thing sparkle animation of star butterfly and another of Marco from star vs the forces of evil
Sorry, but I don’t watch Star vs the Forces of Evil. I’m not all that interested in it, so you’d have to commission me if you wanted that! ^^’

Anonymous: How do you make the backgrounds for the Steven Universe cards?
Already answered that here! :)
As sort of a side note for others, I tag all of this stuff! Tutorials / Art related / Steven Universe related :D

Anonymous: hi I was wondering how do color your art and how do you make your beautiful backgrounds?
Hi! I have this tutorial from a while ago about how I shade, I pretty much still do it the same way for most things. Hmm, which backgrounds? only ones I’ve done lately have been for those Dragon Age cards…so I’ll show how I do that! :D

I’ll go through how I go about doing something like this- I use both SAI and PS
First I block out all of the colours, each colour or object has it’s own layer

Next add in lines and extras (sometimes I’ll do this after shading and base it more on how that comes out). I use both a standard brush and a solid rough one.

Then shading! I pick all of the colours out of colours I’ve already used. So the light green will be shaded with dark green, the dark green shaded with brown. The shading is done directly on to each layer, having them split helps spillage!

This generally leaves hard lines unless I’ve used several colours to build up layers. So I’ll blur some of them out a bit.

Now I switch from SAI to PS, here I use levels to fix up the colours (I work on a cintiq up until now, the colours differ greatly from my main monitor colours)

Usually I’ll do this before leveling, here I’ve decided to do it after. Taking one of my watercolour textures and setting the layer style to overlay (the layer is only black! the white is only so you can see it)

The very last thing I do is a little scratchy acrylic texture! this is just applied as a normal layer (here the layer is only white! the black is so you can see it)

And that’s it~ I use methods like this for a few kinds of pictures, so if it’s textured I’ve probably done something like this.
