Anonymous: Is there any software like TVpaint that is free or is a one time buy thing at a low price ?
Hmm, yeah that’s tricky. Flash, TVPaint and ToonBoom are the major programs I can think of, all of which are a bit pricey.
Only alternative I can think of is Ulead GIF Animator, which is the first animation program I used. I think any version of Photoshop over 7.0 has the timeline function as well which you may be able to find somewhere. Or an old version of Flash.
Each has their ups and downs, Photoshop has better drawing but needs each frame as a layer, and Ulead has very bad drawing tools but a timeline somewhere in between that of Photoshop and Flash…if I’m remembering it right…haven’t used it in quite some time ^^’

Anonymous: Can you show how you did the running animation for Pyxis
I can give a rough breakdown. When I animate I’m always deleting layers, moving frames around and constantly redrawing stuff, so this isn’t a perfect representation of how I made it.
Luckily though I still have some of my breakdown layers for this!
I think throughout working on the run cycles I had this excerpt from The Animator’s Survival Kit up for a lot of the time. It’s helpful to look back on occasionally if something is looking weird.

First pass, getting the poses and timing blocked out. Sometimes I’ll do a few roughs on paper, I find drawing poses with a tablet can be fiddly without a base.

Second pass! her arms weren’t moving quite right so there’s a layer of that, her hair tentacles and shorts needed to be more floaty, so they have a layer too.

Usually I fill in the rest of the roughs, but for this I instead went straight to lines. First by filling in the frames I had drawn, then going to inbetweens.
When doing the lines I also had a copy of her model up next to my workspace as well, I have a habit of making things drastically change size for no reason, so I like to constantly check that sort of thing ^^”
…and then I just coloured it! oh, all of this was done in TVPaint as well!

Anonymous: How did you start selling your work ? Like how do you do shipping with out bending the work and how to you work with shipping cost
Puttin it under a thingy cause I blabbed more than I thought I would XD
I sell my work on Storenvy, their shipping system is broken in to a table based on item type and destination. In my case I go by envelope size and local or international, this will depend on what you sell and your own location, I’ve found that most of my customers are in the same ‘postage cost zone’ so I only need one international. I think other places have a similar system.
And I use Australia Post for all of my shipping, they happen to have an online postage calculator that I can get base costs for, depending on what postal service you use you may or may not have this (could always just ask as well!). Depending on where you’re based you might have to calculate various prices for a lot of places if they’re really different.
You can’t always be sure that it won’t bend, but you can do what you can to prevent it. For large envelopes I add a sheet of thick cardboard, the small cards are fairly thick anyhow so I’ll only add one if the order is small.
I always add bubble wrap to every order! some people showed me punctures that their package had received from things in and outside the envelope, so now I make sure all pointy things are well away from the prints and everything is covered in bubble wrap. Every order is also bagged before going in, large ones in small carry bags, and small in little adhesive cello-bags, wrapping it all up.
…yeah I think that’s it ^^’ hope that helps! sorry…this was a little bit longer than I wanted OTL

Anonymous: I've been following you for a while I love your art it's gorgeous. I stopped drawing for a long time cause I've just been too busy and it's something I wanted to do for a living and when I try anymore. I about want to cry cause I just can't do it now
Hi! and thanks :) unfortunately I’m not sure how much help I can give, as I struggle with that sometimes as well. The only advice I can give is to either stop drawing and try again when you’re calmer, or to do what I sometimes do and draw something that’s ‘easy’ (so in my case something really bright and cute), I find this sort of reminds you that you are capable of drawing when you feel like you’ve failed.
I’m sure you can still draw! just gotta get back into the swing of things! you may also be placing very high standards on yourself (which is my issue), though that can be quite hard to resolve. Sorry I can’t be of more help, I hope you feel better drawing again!

Anonymous: Can you do multiple frames / each little movement tutorial for running animation
I’m not entirely sure what you mean, just a running animation tutorial? most of what I’d say has already been done in much more detail than I could in The Animator’s Survival Kit by Richard Williams! If you search for it along with ‘walk/run cycle’ you can also find plenty of people who’ve posted small excerpts of it.
…unless you mean something else…in which case just send in another ask and I’ll see if I can help!

Anonymous: Can you do a tutorial on how to draw hands and pose them and stuff?😊
Because of how I work I’m not sure how helpful this is. I tend to look at my own hands when I work, it’s a reference I can change and I know how much hurts

If you like working with structures I can’t help, occasionally I’ll add in little lines and blobs to figure out where joins are but that’s about it. This is how I do full body posing as well, so I have a folder of photos of me doing random junk

I also try and keep sort of a mental collection of what I remember certain forms to look like, so I go by that first before posing myself

so yeah…look at your own hand or other body parts and draw them a bunch. If you can’t do that, then you have the vast array of the internet to find pictures of what you want. Or see if you can get someone to pose for you!
….or just quietly analyse every person you see…in a…non-stalker way.
Also I can’t help with posing, I just go by what displays what I want(like if they have a design on their hand), fulfils a function(like holding), or just looks nicer in a composition.
I’m now attempting to use Instagram! been doodling lots of little things, but not stuff I feel like posting here…so I’m going to attempt to gradually post my backlog of miscellaneous sketches and photos over there…and maybe twitter too…if I remember :|
